How/when was the Savory Institute founded?

In the 1960s, Allan Savory made a significant breakthrough in understanding what was causing degradation and desertification of the world’s grasslands ecosystem and, as a resource management consultant, worked with numerous managers on four continents to develop what by the early 1980s became Holistic Management.

In 1984, Allan Savory founded a non-profit organization in the USA – the Center for Holistic Management – to further develop his work. Known by several names over the years (the Allan Savory Center, the Savory Center, and Holistic Management International), Allan left the organization in 2009 to implement a new strategy.

In July 2009, Allan Savory, Daniela Ibarra-Howell, and a handful of other longtime holistic managers founded the Savory Institute to accelerate the worldwide adoption of Holistic Management. The unique strategy of the Savory Institute was to accomplish this through an international network of entrepreneurial innovators and leaders committed to serving their regions with the highest standards of Holistic Management training, implementation support, and ecological monitoring services.
